| Chris Nelloms was a world-class sprinter from Dunbar High School who seemed destined for Olympic glory. But his Olympic opportunities were repeatedly derailed, and by the time he was 27 he was in prison, sentenced to four life terms for the rape of a child under 13. He was an All-American in track while at Dunbar High School, a star sprinter at Ohio State and reached the quarter-finals in the 1996 Olympic Trials for the 200-meter race. But his life was often troubled. In August 1992, Nelloms was seriously wounded by a gunshot while running about 2:30 a.m. in Trotwood. In September 1996, he was sentenced to 90 days in the workhouse after pleading guilty to an assault stemming from a January 1996 fight with two teen-age boys in Trotwood. And then in June1998 he was indicted on ten rape-related charges involving a 12-year-old girl and on Jan. 8, 1999 he was convicted.On Feb. 12, 1999 Nelloms was sentenced to four life terms.
